The 2023 Scotiabank Giller Prize celebrating 30 years was awarded to Sarah Bernstein for her novel Study for Obedience. Her acceptance of the $100,000 – the largest prize for literature in Canada had to be done by a Zoom call because she is presently in Scotland with her newborn baby. Imagine all this at once. Founder Jack Rabinovich realized that we should do more for our authors by naming the first award after his late wife Doris Giller. It now has become the Oscar’s of Canadian literature.
